International Training in Copenhagen: Building Strong Foundations for PR in Sport

As part of the Erasmus+ Sport project “The Power of Public Relations in Sport (PPR)”, an international training for trainers was successfully held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 8–9 November 2024. The event brought together project partners and nominated facilitators from Croatia, Serbia, Türkiye, Denmark, and Belgium, marking a key milestone in the project’s implementation.

The purpose of the international training was to ensure a shared understanding of public relations in sport, align training methodologies across partner countries, and prepare facilitators for delivering high-quality national training programmes. By working together in an international setting, partners strengthened cooperation and created a common framework for transferring knowledge to sports organisations and athletes at national level.

During the two-day training, participants explored core topics covered in the project’s educational guidelines, including:

  • the role of public relations in sport,
  • strategic communication and PR planning,
  • branding and reputation management,
  • media relations and working with journalists,
  • sponsorship communication and partnerships,
  • digital and social media communication, and
  • crisis communication in sport.

The training combined presentations, group discussions, and practical exercises, allowing facilitators to exchange experiences, discuss challenges faced by sports organisations in different countries, and adapt the content to diverse cultural and organisational contexts.

The international training in Copenhagen played a crucial role in ensuring consistency, quality, and impact of the national trainings that followed. It strengthened the facilitators’ confidence and capacity to deliver the programme and ensured that the educational guidelines were applied in a coherent and effective way across all partner countries.

This event highlighted the European added value of the PPR project, demonstrating how cross-border cooperation can support capacity building, knowledge exchange, and more professional communication practices in sport.
